Now, you are about to start a new blog and are looking for an alternative.
So here’s the question:
Let’s find out.
Yes, the first entrant on the list is a hybrid of sorts. At first look, it seems like a potent mix of WordPress and Twitter.
It has the right amount of “coolness”.
If you are a social butterfly, Tumblr might just do the trick for you. It’s fun to explore and has a magical quality that keeps you hooked with its beautiful UI.
I spent a good 15-20 minutes exploring the site while researching for this post.
If you are a fashion blogger, or love to cook and put pictures of your recipes online, or simply prefer pictures over words, Tumblr is the place to go.
Love it or hate it, Tumblr will definitely catch your attention.
Medium is a no-nonsense blogging platform.
If writing is your niche, Medium is for you. Although technically a blogging platform, Medium is more like a magazine where you can choose a niche and write about it.
You will be a part of the list of authors, and if you are good enough, you can rise up and be featured on the leading pages of your respective niche.
If you want to showcase your writing skills and get noticed, I would recommend Medium over Blogger and WordPress.
Medium has a wonderful community of serious readers and writers. If you are one of those two things, you should definitely go for it.
If you think you are the master of your niche blog at Medium, remember that Barack Obama also has a Medium account.
Weebly is more of a website builder. You can drag and drop various elements to create agood looking web page.
They market themselves as a tool, and that’s essentially what it is.
You can sign up for free and choose from a bunch of themes to start a blog of your own. You also get an option of using a Weebly domain or getting a paid domain.
The drag and drop functionality works like a charm and you feel like a kid in a Lego store building your own website with blocks.
Weebly lets you create an amazing blog without toiling for days working on the design or hiring a designer.
Your free blog can have a perfectly professional look; Weebly makes that possible.
First things first:
But it’s an interesting idea…
Pen.io lets you blog but without the hassle of building a blog.
It’s blogging without a blog. Sound confusing?
Let me clear the air. When it comes to publishing personal views on the internet, people generally are torn between the choice of having a microblogging account or a full-fledged blogging site.
Pen.io is the middle ground. You can just start writing without signing up.
With Pen.io, you get a URL for your post which you can lock with a password.
It’s something new. Maybe it’s not for a serious blogger, but if you want to stay anonymous online, this might serve that purpose.
Here you have the freedom to write a blog post without any hassles or limits.
Ghost is more than a blogging platform; it’s a concept.
Some have even touted it as the “WordPress killer” and I resonate with this idea.
Brain child of John O’Nolan, former deputy head of the WordPress UX team, Ghost is anopen-source blogging platform.
O’Nolan believes that WordPress has moved away from being just a blogging platform to a full-fledged CMS and now there’s a gap that needs to be filled in.
Ghost promises to enhance your blogging experience.
While still in its nascent stages, Ghost has a long way to go before it gives WordPress or Blogger any serious competition. But it seems like a wonderful and exciting platform.
With time, Ghost may become a serious contender for the best blogging platform.
These 5 platforms are all concepts which can be helpful for you if you are looking for something more than WordPress or Blogger.
For instance, a food or a fashion blogger can do a lot more on Tumblr (with its amazing design) than they can on Blogger. Similarly, Medium can serve as a great platform to air your political views or self-help posts; you don’t need to build an audience base and if you are good, you have a chance of being featured on the front pages of your niche.
Remember: There is a blogging platform for all of us out there.
You just need to go out and find yours.
Which blogging platform do you use? What other platforms can be added to this list? Let me know in the comments section!
